Miss/Master Merry Christmas 2014 - Photogenic Contest

To enter your child into the Photogenic Contest, please see the rules for participation and complete the form by clicking here.   If you are unable to download this form, call the chamber office at 655-7535 and we can email one to you.   All forms must be returned to the Chamber of Commerce office by 12:00 December 4.  Winners of the contest will be asked to ride in the Christmas parade.  Winners will have to provide their own transportation and parade decorations.

The parade will start on Parkway Drive at North Mall.  It proceeds down Parkway Drive and turns right onto Highway 11.  From Highway 11, it turns right onto Chalkville Road and ends just past The Mall.

Road Closings

For the safety of our participants, the following roads will be closed to vehicle traffic from 1-4pm:

Cherokee Drive

Pumphouse Road (Road in Sports Complex)

Parkway Drive (beginning at 2:45-4pm)

*Please allow plenty of time to find your parking spot.*

Trussville Christmas Parade

Tell me about road closures for the parade.

Parade line-up begins at 1:00. At that time parts of Parkway Drive and Cherokee Drive (from the Senior Center to Parkway Drive) will be closed until the parade is over. Beginning at 3:00, Hwy 11 and Chalkville Road will be closed until the parade is over.

Where should we park?

As always, parking is an issue in the downtown area, and the closer to parade time, the more difficult it will be to find a parking spot.  The parking lot at the old junior high will be available to parade participants until full.  The lot at the chamber office (225 Parkway Drive) has a limited amount of parking, as does the library.  You might also try North Mall or South Mall.  (Please don’t park on the same side of the street as the homes on North & South Mall.)

If we’re participating in the parade, when should we get there?

If your entry is being judged in the float competition, please have your entry in line by 1:30.  Parade participants should be there no later than 2:30 but keep in mind the road closings in timing your arrival.

Where should I drop off my child to participate in the parade?

Parade line-up is different this year. Walkers will line-up on the driveway behind the baseball field on Parkway Drive (at the former junior high school). If your child is a part of an entry on wheels, they should be dropped off at either the entrance to the Sports Complex on the Cherokee Drive OR at the 3-way stop sign (near baseball fields) inside the Complex.

What is the parade route?

The parade route is the same as in years past.  It begins on Parkway Drive in front of the tennis courts, continues down Parkway Drive to Highway 11, turns right on Highway 11, then turns right again on Chalkville Road.  The parade ends JUST PAST West Mall on Oak St.  (Please don’t disperse at West Mall.  Continue on to Oak St. and turn right to drop off your riders.  People at West Mall are there to see the parade, too, so please allow them to enjoy the parade by not stopping the parade in front of them.)

How long does the parade last?

The parade should be over around 3:45 or so.  Please join us for Christmas carols and the annual tree lighting immediately following the parade.  Bryant Bank will provide hot chocolate or lemonade (depending on the temperature outside) for anyone who comes to the tree lighting on a first-come, first-served basis.

We’ll have the restrooms at the former junior high school gym (for the walkers) and at the baseball fields (for those lining up in the Sports Complex) open and available.

Please don’t throw items at spectators.

As a safety precaution, please don’t throw candy or other objects at parade-watchers.  Thank you for your cooperation!
