Job Description
IMPACT Family Counseling is a non-profit agency that provides various programs for the community. This job posting is for a Special Education Teacher at one of IMPACT’s therapeutic day schools. The day school serves a small group of students from surrounding school districts who require social, emotional, behavioral, and academic support before returning to his/her home district.

Job Responsibilities
•Review IEPs of new applicants to determine if the day school is the appropriate placement •Collaborate with other teachers, therapists, and professionals to provide comprehensive support to students •Provide instruction and support in various academics, life skills, and social/emotional areas •Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed •Supervise teacher assistants and support staff •Maintain accurate records and data tracking systems •Provide social skills training to students in such areas as anger management, social skills enhancement, conflict resolution, and appropriate peer interactions •Utilize positive behavioral supports, interventions, and develop positive individualized reward systems •Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge •Use and maintain confidential information following state and federal law •Coordinate student-required assignments/ tasks with the case manager including assisting with the completion and submission of those items •Serves as a team member in determining student accommodations, referral, eligibility, placement, and individual program development •Participate in restraint training and participate in safe restraining of a student, if needed •Perform and model de-escalation techniques when an individual is exhibiting escalated and/or aggressive behavior toward himself/herself or staff
Job Qualifications
•Master's Degree in Special Education is preferred, but candidates with a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience will also be considered •Valid Special Education teaching certification in Alabama •Must pass a criminal background check •Experience working with students with special needs and challenging behaviors •Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis and behavior modification interventions •Team leadership experience •Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals and support staff •Experience in a full range of severity levels in student behaviors and service delivery models (particularly Autism) •Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment •Strong organizational and time-management skills
